If I Said…….

If I said I was confident
I wouldn’t believe me
But something continues to drive me
And stops me from giving up trying
I’ve been in inner turmoil
Torn between two alternatives
Action couldn’t be taken
As decisions couldn’t be made
Maybe you find this hard to understand
Maybe you don’t care
But I’ll take that chance
And find out for myself.

I think of you everyday
Even though sometimes I doubt
And wonder what reality is
If I said I love you
Would you turn and walk away
Or would you stay?

If I said I had all the answers
I wouldn’t believe me
But sometimes I hold solutions
In the palms of my hands
I can’t make dreams come true
I can only give of myself
And when times are trying
It’s so easy to give up hope
Sometimes I have been deceived
By my fears and imaginings
But they don’t deter me now
While I hope and believe.

I see your brown eyes smiling
Shining on me their light
Am I ready to chance it
If I said I love you
Would you turn and walk away
Or would you stay?

If I said I was without fault
I wouldn’t believe me
But sometimes I admit I’m human
With failings and weaknesses
And deep inside I have a heart
Protected by barbed wire and fences
I want to let you come inside
And be part of my splendor
Don’t be frightened by the illusions
Of cynicism and toughness
Because within the guarded heart
Is a warmth and tenderness.

I don’t know you well
But I’d like to know you better
Maybe we’d be drawn together
If I said I love you
Would you turn and walk away
Or would you stay?
