I’m Glad To Be Your Friend

by Kevin Sinclair

You told me about your life
I knew every word was true
I have never doubted your sincerity
And I never cease to marvel
At the depth of courage you possess
When times have been hardest
You’re always the one to lead
Showing by your example how to cope
I have met some women in the past
Who have spoken wise in good times
But when the crunch comes
They have fallen to pieces
But you are so much different
And I’m glad to be your friend.

People have leant on my shoulder
At times I have leant on theirs
But I have never made it a habit
I don’t want to give away my self-respect
When you entered my life
I looked at you and saw
A woman who had heart
You are warm and compassionate
But you are never compromising
To the point where you lose yourself
You hold yourself so well
You don’t blow about in the wind
You really are someone special
And I’m glad to be your friend.

When some people see someone struggling
All they can offer is sympathy
And that has never helped
I have seen you stop to offer
Comfort and support with compassion
Not taking away their responsibilities
And encouraging them to find solutions
Now that takes a mighty big person
To offer that kind of help
I look at you and wonder
Where do you get the strength
And the whole time I know
That you’re no ordinary lady
And I’m glad to be your friend.

At times I could put you on a pedestal
But due to my expectations you’d fall down
You don’t want to be someone’s idol
And you can’t tolerate fame
All you want is to be able to share
The goodness and love you have
And when words need to be spoken
You lovingly treat them with kindness
You are aware of others feelings
And you don’t want to cause pain
My lady you hold yourself well
You command my respect
As you really are someone special
And I’m glad to be your friend.
