Original Themes
by Kevin Sinclair
It was an extension of the original idea
And the more it was expanded out
The less it seemed to be saying
It was killed by complexities
Until there was nothing left
You had your words to say
But it didn’t make any difference.
It was great when it was simple
And when it was unencumbered
It rang like a bell
On a clear night
But now it’s lost it’s magic
You had your words to say
But it didn’t make any difference.
Somewhere there was a deviation
From the original theme
And now so much is destroyed
From what was once enjoyed
I’ve been running hard chasing
Trying to find it once again
But it has been lost in confusion
You asked is it dead
I said no it’s still alive
Somewhere amongst the rubble.
The concept was very clear
When the voyage was embarked upon
And it was a pretty arrangement
But what has been lost
Can no longer be seen
You’ve offered words of encouragement
But it didn’t make any difference.
Original themes have a way of coming
When they are least expected
Their existence has been denied
When moments have been tense
But now there is only emptiness
You had your words to say
And time made all the difference.
